چکیده

stress and aDxiety have long been known many bodily fUDctions. Psychologic stress marked increase in catecholamine release from the adrenal medulla, iDcreased sympathetic nervous system activity, and changes in circulating levels of adrenocortical and other hormones. The early psychosomat literature suggests that epinephrine is elaborated duriDg ar, whereas norepine phrine is elaborated during aDger (FuDkenstein, 1956). More recent ly, Frankenhaeuser (1975) suggests that the epinephrine level iDcreases under circumstances of no vel ty, ant ic ip at ion, unpredic t ability, aDd general emo tional arousal, whereas the level of norepinephrine increases during increased physical activity. In Dimsdale's study (1980) reported that while exercise induces a response of the sympathetic nervous system, psychological stress induces primarily an adrenal response. Pregnancy is a crisis period of maj or importance to women and their famil s. Some degree of anxiety is preseDt duriDg pregnancy progresses. Anxiety during pregnancy has been related to age, parity, general educa tion, weight gain, and trimester of pregDancy. (Friederich, 1977). Meternal anxiety has been implicated as one variable in the etiology of maternal and fetal complica tions. Anxiety in pregnancy women has been associated with hyperemesis gravidarum, difficult and proloDged labor and habitual abortion (Myers, 1979). Fetal compli

Development of a Simple and Sensitive Terbium Sensitized Fluorescence Method for Determination of Epinephrine and Norepinephrine in Serum

A simple, rapid, selective and highly sensitive fluorimetric method for determination of two catecholamines, i.e. norepinephrine (NE) and epinephrine (EP), in serum samples was developed. The method is based on the fluorescence sensitization of terbium (Tb3+) by complexation with both catecholamines in the presence of lanthanum (La3+), as a co-cation, and in a Na...

Changes in Catecholamines and Acetylcholinesterase Levels of Crebellum, Mid-brain and Brain Cortex in Chromium Treated Rats

The short and long term effects of chromium toxicity on brain catecholamines and acetylcholinesterase levels were investigated. Rats were injected daily with varying amounts of chromium. The short term (2 h) administration of chromium (8 mmol/kg) reduced catecholamines level of cerebellum, mid-brain and brain-cortex by 22.8, 19.4 and 21.2% respectively. Acetylcholinesterase activity was also re...

The Relationship between Maternal Haemoglobin and Haematocrit with Low Birth Weight and Preterm Labour

Background & aim: Low levels of maternal haemoglobin and haematocrit in the first, second, and third trimesters are considered as possible risk factors regarding low birth weight (LBW) and preterm labour (PTL). The present study aimed to evaluate the relationship between maternal haemoglobin (Hb) and haematocrit (HCT) levels with LBW and PTL. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on...
